Infographics are carefully designed to convey essential information about a process, system or concept that would be more difficult to describe using words. Though they can involve use of words, infographics rely mainly on pictorial representation. Infographics are conceptual by nature. They describe relationships, process, work flow, capacity, procedure etc. On the other end of the spectrum are highly realistic illustrations dealing with specific material properties such as surface and form.
